What is Rachel
Dolezal known for?
A documentary on Netflix showed
Rachel Dolezel, a white woman, who claimed that she was black and was the
President of the NAACP in Spokane, WA. In the documentary, she was leading the
rallies in Spokane against injustices done to Blacks, but she was rejected by
Blacks. Many argued that she did not have the right to call herself Black
because she had not shared in their collective abusive experiences of being a
Black woman. Others claimed that she was a fraud trying to take advantage of her
White privilege to benefit from being perceived as Black.
Does Rachel Dolezal
have a right to be black?
According to Netflix, Rachel has since changed her name to
African names – Nkechi Amare Diallo; dates black men; adopted black children;
went to an HBCU; taught African and Black courses; and was a President of an
NAACP branch. How many progressive African-Americans love African names, attend
HBCU, teach Black experience courses, or affiliate with Black civil rights
organizations publicly?

Should black
Americans learn to reach out strategically?
In many Netflix movies, it was the Americans and the Soviets
that came to help the Jews against Nazi Germany. In the Bible, it was Saul, who
was a Pharisee that killed Christians that later became a Christian himself,
changed his name to Apostle Paul, and wrote most of the New Testament to promote
Christianity before he was executed. White Americans helped to elect President Barack Hussein Obama, a son of an African and White woman
as well as has a Muslim
name, twice for 8 years, but Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who are
African-Americans, could not even win the Democratic ticket.
How can black
Americans achieve true power?
True power is making non-members
fight on your behalf even when you are unavailable or powerless, especially
members of the powerful group. In the Netflix movie, Black Americans have failed to allow non-members
to fully participate in winning their cause for them. Instead, they have
successfully pushed non-members away from representing them because they do not
want to be seen as weak or powerless. Rachel or Nkechi should have been
supported and encouraged by Blacks to go get more of her kind. In America, White
women can move faster with the congress, courts, and police towards achieving
social justice and equality for African-Americans. |
