Mark 16:
Jesus rose from the dead
and a man in white robe told Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, and Salome at
his tomb that Jesus the Nazarene had risen. He also said that they should go
tell the disciples that Jesus will meet them in Galilee as he had told them
before. Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from who Jesus drove out seven
demons, but no one believed her. Jesus appeared to more people including the
disciples and was upset at the disciples' lack of faith in believing the reports
that he had risen. Jesus then sent them to the world to preach the good news and
baptizing those who believed as God's chosen ones. Those who believe will drive
out demons, speak in new tongues, will not be harmed by snakes or poison, and
heal people. Jesus then ascended into heaven and sat on the right side of God. The
disciples went on to preach and baptize as commanded with the gifts of those
that believed.
Luke 1:
Luke wrote to Theophilus
about things that were witnessed and have been fulfilled. During the reign of
King Herod in Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah and both him and his
wife, Elizabeth, were descendants of Aaron (Moses' brother). They both observed
God's laws blamelessly, but had no children because she was barren and they were
advanced in age. Zechariah was burning incense as priest in the temple when an
angel appeared to him by the altar and told him that his prayers for a child
have been answered. His wife was to birth a son who will be called John, be joy
to the people, and will be great to God. John was to avoid alcohol and was
filled with the Holy Spirit from birth. He will also prepare the way for the
Lord and bring the people back to the wisdom of God in the spirit and power of
Elijah. The angel made Zachariah become dumb because he did not believe Angel
Gabriel, who spoke these words to him in God's presence. Gabriel went to Mary in
Nazareth in Galilee, who was engaged to a descendant of David, Joseph, and told
her that God had favored her to birth Jesus, Son of the Most High God. He also
told Mary that she will be filled with the Holy Spirit, she will give birth
despite being a virgin, and her cousin Elizabeth was in her 6th month despite
her age. John the Baptist is born. |

Luke 2:
Caesar
Augustus ordered a census throughout the Roman empire, so everyone went to their
hometown to be counted. Joseph left Nazareth in Galilee in Israel to Bethlehem,
city of David in Judah, with pregnant Mary to register. Jesus, her firstborn was
born and wrapped in a manger. An angel appeared to a group of shepherds tending
their flock at night and informed them that the Christ has been born in
Bethlehem. They went to see for themselves and spread to word about his birth.
After circumcision, Jesus was taken to Jerusalem, as the firstborn male child,
to be dedicated to God in the temple. In the temple, Simeon, a devout man
prophesized that Jesus was the Christ and would be a sign that many would speak
against. Prophetess Anna, who was a widow for 84 years and lived in the temple ever
since, also spoke about Jesus, Joseph then took his family back to Nazareth in
Galilee. Each year Jesus went to Jerusalem for Passover and when he was 12 years
old, he stayed in the temple in Jerusalem with the teachers of the law to ask
questions instead of returning with his parents to Nazareth. All were amazed at
his understanding of God's words. His parents found him 3 days later and he told
them that he was supposed to be in his Father's house. |
