Luke 3:
God told John in the desert
to go around the country preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of
sin. As prophesized by Isaiah, John was the voice calling in the desert and
preparing the way for Jesus. John taught the people to be baptized to
disregard Judaism of Abraham for the good fruits of repentance for the Holy
Spirit through Jesus. John preached socialism of sharing and enjoying
just enough rather than capitalism. He also baptized tax collectors and soldiers as well as
spoke against bearing false witness. Many wondered if he was the Christ, but
John told them that the Christ was coming after him and that he baptizes with
water, but the Christ will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire. King
Herod arrested John for speaking against his evil rulings and Herod's marriage
to his sister-in-law. John baptized many, including Jesus, and God came down as
a dove to declare Jesus as his son. Jesus began his ministry at age 30.
Luke 4:
Jesus was led to the desert
by the Holy Spirit for a 40-day fast. Satan wanted Jesus to turn stones into
bread if Jesus is the Son of God because Jesus was hungry (economic power), but
Jesus said that it was written that man should not live on bread alone. Satan
then showed Jesus all the glory of the earthly kingdoms that had been given to
him and promised to give it to Jesus if Jesus would worship him (political
power), but Jesus told him that it was written that only God shall be
worshipped. Satan took Jesus to Jerusalem and had him stand on the zenith of the
temple. Satan told Jesus to thrown himself down if he was the Son of God because
it was written that God will send angels to protect him (power of deceit / false
prophets), but
Jesus told him not to test God. Jesus returned to Nazareth in the power of the
Spirit to teach and all were amazed. He read a passage from Isaiah and told
them that it was fulfilled today. He told them that in the time of Elijah
and Elisha, only foreigners got blessed and not people of Israel, so they chased
him out of town to kill him, but he escaped. Jesus healed a man with an evil
spirit, who called him the Holy One of God. Jesus healed a woman with fever,
many sickness, and demon possessed - the demons called him the Son of God.

Luke 5:
Jesus
recruits Peter, James, and John as disciples. A man with leprosy was healed and
a paralytic was dropped through the roof on a mat for Jesus to heal. Jesus
told him that his sins were forgiven, but the Pharisee and teachers of the law
from Jerusalem and other cities felt that Jesus was blasphemous because only God
can forgive sins. Jesus eventually told the paralytic man to get up, take his mat, and go
home, and he was healed. Jesus told Levi, a tax collector to follow him, and he
left everything at the tax booth and followed Jesus. At Levi's banquet, the
Pharisees and teachers of the law asked the disciples why Jesus and his
disciples were eating with tax collector and sinners, but Jesus responded that
he had come to call them to repentance. |
