Angela McGlowan: The Problem with Black Republicans - LeBron James & Gisele Bündchen in Vogue
By: Ehimwenma E. Aimiuwu
March 28, 2008

Black Republicans generally are one of the saddest things that ever happened to the progress and healing of American in recent times.  The Republican media, such as Fox News, always gives them the opportunity to speak for and represent Black people, when it is very clear that they are not in touch with Black reality in America.  These are people who mainly believe that racism and discrimination is over and that we should just move on and look into a progressive future without correcting or eliminating the weakness of our past or foundation.  They are usually so interested in pleasing the White mainstream media or pretending to see things from their perspective, instead of speaking the truth that will heal a nation.  They choose to keep a paycheck, their status, and influence with the mainstream, instead of using their position to bring understanding between a divided America.

Lately on the Bill O’Reilly show, the new Black Republican that is unconsciously being used to spearhead the attack on the Black church and continuing the oppression of the Black worldview is Angela McGlowan, a Black Republican.   The Black church is currently under attack by the Republican media as an attempt to hinder the Presidential race of Barack Obama.  As usual, the White Republicans will always use Blacks, like Angela McGlowan, to carry out their dirty work of making their Black sycophants speak against Black history, truths, and realities.  A couple of days ago, Angela McGlowan claimed that Rev. Wright’s job (Obama’s pastor) was to preach about God and love, and not give hate speeches.  She also encouraged others to run away from churches that preach like Rev. Wright.

Angela McGlowan fails to remember, understand, or know that Black America got to where it is today because of the Black church’s role in American history.  These churches were headed by courageous preachers, like Rev. Wright, who spoke the truth based on the Word of the Living God against all odds.  The church is one of the only places, if not the only place, where Blacks come together amass to get enlightened socially, economically, and politically about their plight on Biblical principles.  Angela McGlowan is indirectly saying that the Israelites and the Christians of old should have turned their backs to their prophets and the Christ because they spoke the truth to the Emperors, kings, and religious leaders of the day in an attempt to advocate for the poor, the oppressed, and the disabled.  Angela McGlowan intentionally stands against the will of God, her people, and her history in order to gain the favors and benefits of associating with White Republican mainstream establishments.

Yesterday on the same show, she claimed that LeBron James – Gisele Bündchen’s Vogue cover was not an issue and that we should be happy for LeBron for being the first Black man to be on the cover of Vogue.  What she fails to realize is that even if Blacks have the short end of the stick, it does not make Blacks baggers.  We do not have to be on the front cover of any magazine that does not want us there.  Gisele is well dressed, looking professional; she is smiling, but at the same time she is trying to run away from something nearby.  The only thing nearby is the only Black man ever to be featured on the cover of the Vogue magazine, and he is screaming angrily, dressed like a school boy, and is scaring our precious lady off the page.  Maybe it was not intentional by the Vogue Company, but both Vogue and LeBron James hold a public responsibility to be conscious of the images they put out there.  They must try to understand that they represent so much and so should not leave room for others to feel disrespected.

As for Angela McGlowan, she needs to speak on Republican issues, and not Black issues.  This is because she is already lost to Black America by her views and reality.  Not every Black person should speak for Black America, only those still in touch and understands the current views, reality, and expectations of Blacks in America
