Micah 5:
God is rejecting Israel as a nation, but out of Bethlehem in Judah will come a ruler (Yeshua/Jesus) of ancient origins to rule over Israel (the godly from every nation). Israel will be abandoned until the new ruler is born to gather his brothers (godly from every nation). The new ruler will secure peace to the end of the earth with the strength and majesty of God. Jesus was going to rescue his sheep from the Assyrians and rule Assyria. The remnant of Jacob (the new Israel from all nations) will conquer all their enemies. On that day God will destroy all weapons of war, witchcraft, idols, all forms of work, and all the nations that disobeyed God will be eliminated.
Micah 6:
God wants the people to plead their case to God’s mountain (Israel’s main idol) for God brought a charge against Israel. God charges Israel with idolatry (quest for money, power through unjust laws, secret societies for power, and discrimination to oppress others for gain) for all the good he has done for them since he brought them out of slavery in Egypt. God is not interested in their offering and sacrifices, nor has God demanded the life of their firstborn for their transgressions. All God wanted from them was to act justly, love mercy, and humble themselves before God rather than allow the quest of idols to dictate their lifestyles. God was going to destroy the physical Israel because of their wickedness, ill-gotten treasures, dishonest scales, violence of the rich, and lying and deceitful tongues. They will eat but not be satisfied, store up but save not, plant but not harvest, and crush grapes but not drink its wine.
Micah 7:
Israel does not have a godly man left because they have been swept from the land. They are quick to shed blood and set traps for their brother while both hands specialize in doing evil. The rulers accept gifts, judges accept bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire, and they all conspire together to oppress the people. God is coming with confusion, where no one can be trusted within a family. Israel will rise again as a godly people of many nations and people will come from a far and the rest of the earth will become desolate because of their deeds. God will show mercy to the new Israel from every nation.
