Zephaniah 1:
God was going to sweep everything away from the earth, including fish, birds, animals, and man, because the wicked who rules the world will only have rubble to inherit. God was going punish Jerusalem and Judah for their idol and starry worships as well as those who no longer seek God. On God’s day of destruction, traders, merchants, kings and princes, those dressed in foreign clothes, and who fill their god’s temples with violence and deceit shall perish. Also, God will deal with those who are complacent and believe that God will do nothing (God does not exist – atheists). The day of God will be bitter and he will make the sudden end of all who live on the earth (because the world is generally a wicked place ruled by the godless).
Zephaniah 2:
Gather together shameful nation and humble yourself before God for forgiveness. God was going to destroy Canaan, land of the Philistines and where Israel is located today (According to Genesis 10:13-14, Philistines are children of African Egypt (Mizraim) but seem to have possessed the land of Canaan). God was going to eliminate Moab (land of Ruth) and Ammon for the insults and threats against God’s people. Sudan/Ethiopia (Cush) was also going to fall to the sword and the Assyrians will be destroyed. The wicked and godless will always fail because God is consistently just.
Zephaniah 3:
Woe to Jerusalem a city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled! She obeys nobody, accepts no correction, and does not trust God nor seek God. Her officials are like lions and her rulers like evening wolves that leave nothing for morning. Her prophets are arrogant and the priest do violence to the law. God is righteous and his justice never fail daily. God will cut off the godless nations and they will be put to shame for all the wrong they did to God. Then all the godly from every nation will assemble in Jerusalem in glamour to rejoice with God.
